Oxford Test of English Advanced assesses English proficiency in the CEFR B2–C1 range. This guide explains how it differs from the standard test and how to plan your preparation.
Advanced or standard?
The standard test covers A2–B2, while Advanced is designed for B2–C1. The right option depends on your level and the requirements of the institution or organisation that will receive your certificate.
Four skills, delivered digitally
The test has four modules: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. It is taken online and invigilated in person at Approved Test Centres. Check the arrangements available for the session you are considering.
How to prepare
Start with your goals and assess each skill. Practise with exercises and tasks similar to those used in the test, giving extra attention to areas you want to improve. Make sure your materials are for Advanced.
Check that the certificate meets your needs
Before booking, ask the university, organisation or other recipient whether it accepts Oxford Test of English Advanced and what requirements apply. Acceptance depends on the recipient’s own rules.
